The Latest Fleet Scuttlebutt......
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the loft, all the sails were folded neatly, from Ullman to NorthCroft,
The tillers and rudders were stacked in their spaces and all masts and booms were resting firm in their places.
The inflatable dinghies stowed each side of the rack with the oars and accessories on the left near the back.
Some of our crew had affixed the flags to the wall with the race markers, anchors and weights in their stall.
Others made sure all the dollies were working, so moving our boats would be smooth and not jerking.
The keel boats were moved to rest safe on the hard, in case a storm came and moved them out of our “yard”.
So, thanks to so many we had another great season, Gov Cup, Jr and Adult sailing are just some of the reasons.
While there’s still much to do and we’re never really done, we’ll be ready next season for another year of fun.

Commodore Ramblings
The end of the year approaches - only a couple of events are left. Unfortunately Oktoberfest did not fly - finally done in by the weather. As always we thank everyone - particularly Shanna and Pat for stepping up to be the organizers. Perhaps next year.
Thanksgiving time is upon us. Despite the many woes in the world - the Club has much to be thankful for. Club activities have rebounded - and sometimes exceeded - pre-Covid levels. Membership is up. There have been significant upgrades to the facility - with more needs identified. I personally am quite thankful for the continued efforts of the Board members - fantastic job. And - most importantly - very thankful that no major storms came to visit!
In the traditions of WRYC - the Oyster Roast ranks at the top. Members have stepped up with extensive plans to again make this a successful event. We encourage everyone to join in - should be a fine event!

The Latest Fleet Scuttlebutt.....
Sailing in Texas on Wednesday nights!
As I write this I’m sitting in a hotel room in Seabrook Texas overlooking Clear Lake…..its 80 degrees and there are a number of sailboats sailing around out near the cut channel going into Kemah. The breeze is brisk, probably a steady 12 knots out of the southeast and the boats and crew are getting ready to start the Wednesday night beer can races. But I digress……………
Well, back at WRYC, by contrast, there isn’t much going on. Fall is upon us and we will be moving the keel boats on November the 4th to their winter home over at Mobjack Bay Marina, and the other club boats will get repositioned in the field storage area in the next few weeks I know I’ve mentioned organizing a workday to put some of the lasers back together and I’ll get around to it but it may be spring now before it happens. I mentioned this in the last Telltale I believe, but if anyone would like to donate to the Adult sailing program in support of fleet maintenance it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount you feel comfortable with is accepted as it will go directly to Fleet and the boat repairs. $25, $50, whatever you can contribute.
Other wise we’re getting ready for our highlight event, the Fall Oyster Roast and hope to see you all there.

Seasons come and seasons go. So happy to see cooler less humid weather come in. We’ve had an incredibly successful summer season with events and programs that went well. The transition to Fall was marked again by a fine event - the Labor Day Social. Autumn and Harry Taylor were the organizers - special appreciation is given to Stephanie Peart, Mark Holthaus, Sean Smith, and Eric Moore for volunteering to help. Gary and Beve always seem to show up when help is needed and with Mark did cleanup duty. Thanks to Charlie Woerner for "coming home” to cook and reminding us of the thanks due to the Woerners for many years of service.
No longer being of a younger generation - I remember being taught to use a keyboard - it was called “typing”. A sentence that was used was “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid……”. Now on my keyboard that sentence is finished “….aid of their CLUB”. Now is the time for planning for 2023. Board members are finishing their Covid tour of duties. Help is needed to keep this going. We need YOU to step up - so please give serious consideration to participation.
