Let's All Give Thanks
I find that the practice of thinking about all of the things I have to be thankful for a cathartic and rewarding mental exercise that puts things in perspective. As this is the month where we gather as families and give thanks, I wanted to share some of the things I am thankful for. I am thankful for all of the friendships I have made at the WRYC, the skills that have been passed down by the sailors of the Club, the times spent in fellowship on and off the water, and the leadership experience I have gained while serving as the Commodore of the Club. These are just a few of the many things that come to mind when I consider thankfulness and my time spent as a member of the WRYC. I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving and hope to before then see you at our upcoming Oyster Roast.

Welcome "Tranquility Base" our new Islander 30 Keel Boat
Happy Fall WRYC,
I mentioned last month I would have some exciting news to report to the club and here it is! Our newest addition to the fleet is a 30’ Islander Bahamas ! The boat is well equipped and in the process of being moved down from Annapolis to its new home on the Ware River. The boat should be on the hook at the club by the 3rd of November and available for viewing during the Oyster Roast the weekend of the 13th. Soon after it will be moved to the hard at Severn River Marina. We have several items to take care of on this boat as well as our Paceship 26’ Wagtail and I’ll be putting together a list of “to do’s” for both boats soon. Please be on the lookout for the email as I’ll be soliciting help for this work!
We have all but wrapped up the sailing season and will be moving club boats over to the field for the winter months. I could use some help the weekend of the 6/7th moving the Opti’s from the ramp area as well as the Albacores. Please email me @ jgarret1 @ gmx.com if you are available to help. I’ll send out a separate email reminder as well. This shouldn’t take more than an hour tops.
Lastly, I’m working on a survey and meeting agenda for our winter meeting and will get the survey out to the sailing community soon so please be on the lookout. Finally, for those who would still like to contribute to the Keel Boat fund we are just a few thousand away from our goal……any amount helps offset the clubs portion. Thanks for your support !!
Respectfully,

Changing Seasons
With the changing of the seasons comes a change in pace. Things are beginning to slow down at the WRYC as we transition from summer to fall, but we still have some great opportunities to gather and enjoy the Club and each other’s company. Be on the lookout for our much loved and well attended Oyster Roast. It is sure to be a great time. There is also still time to get out on the water and enjoy our little slice of heaven. I hope to see you all soon.

Fall Sailing?................Absolutely !
It may be October but that’s some of the best sailing weather here in the Commonwealth. As the temps start to cool we can still get out on the water, even in the smaller boats. I plan to leave one Club Albacore near the ramp at least thru October. The keel boat is also available thru October and I still have a weekend or 2 available should someone want to get checked out so let me know.
Speaking of Albacore’s, the Club just acquired another boat, including a decent trailer AND a dolly. The new boat (#7494) has a yellow deck, newer set of sails and is set up as more of a day sailor. It still needs to have the mast stepped and rigged but all the pieces and parts are there.
Now, on to more serious business. I have reached out to the membership regarding boat storage and asked all who store a boat on Club property to send me an email providing the boat type, length, trailered/not trailered, but received only a few responses. In the next week or so I will be sending out another notice to the membership asking for this information again. We need to have an accurate listing of ALL stored boats for a multitude of reasons, including who to contact in case of damage, impending weather moving in, etc. Please take this request seriously so we can protect both you and the Club.
Not really much else to report for now. I do have a special surprise for the Club but I think I’ll save that for next month!
Have a safe and enjoyable October.
