Fleet Captain's Report

Update on the Fleet

Sailing season is nearly back on the Ware River! As mentioned previously, the WRYC Sunday Sailing Series is a great place to get your feet wet (literally and figuratively) in small boat sailing. The environment is fun and welcoming. To that end, the WRYC Sunday Sailing Committee will be hosting one more information session on the basics of small boat sailing on April 13th after the Club Work Day. Thank you Joe Morgan and Jay Dunbar for pulling this session together.

The Sunday Sailing Series is open to sailors of all levels. Please contact Joe Morgan or Jim Garrett if you are interested in joining. We have a real need for crew members. The goal is to routinely race at least six boats each week. To do so, we need at least four to six more folks to come out on Sundays. There is no attendance commitment, so please come once or every weekend to sail!

The acquisition of an Irwin 25 is slogging along. We are continuing to work with the owner and his agents on the title transfer. Hopefully more details will be available next month.

For some time, we have been discussing campaigning Snagglepuss on Wednesday nights with the York River Yacht Club. Efforts are underway to make that a reality. We have applied for and have received our PHRF rating. We will be moving the boat down to Holiday Marina soon for a new bottom coat of paint, and then Snags will be moved down to the York to race. If you are interested in helping with preparing Snags for the season or racing this summer, please contact me, John Singleton, or Clayton James.

Again, I am confident that our sailing program is moving in the right direction. As a final note, I would like to thank the membership and the board for supporting the sailing program with this year's budget. We have plenty to do, but the rewards come back ten-fold in our ability to enjoy the beauty of our local waters. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments and/or concerns at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

See you on the water!
